Life with Nina

By jove, I think she's got it!
I don't know who is smarter - me or Nina! LOL I finally figured out how to get her to consistently "do her duty" outside. We go outside and I walk her to the far side of the yard. I don't have a huge yard, but it is a far enough distance to Nina that once she takes that hike that she is ready to squat. Sweet success! I have learned not to praise her until she's done because if I do she tries to walk over to me and continue to "do her duty" at the same time. Kinda comical to watch! She is such a very sweet girl! I thought Sammie and her would become a dynamic Chi team, but Sammie is much too busy wrestling with Lucy and Nina wants no part of those wrestling matches! As she becomes more comfortable here, she seems to be quite independent and knows her mind. She will roam the yard without me, but when she wants some lovin' she will be right back at my side.

Nina Outwaits Me
I got home from work and was so pleased to find that Miss Nina had kept her crate dry and clean while I was gone at work today. I took her outside and stayed outside with her for what seemed like forever. She was walking around the back yard, but I never saw her do "her business." I wasn't watching her every single second so I just assumed that I missed it! But I was wrong! I came back in the house and she was right on my heels following me back in. I was putzing around the house doing various little tasks and letting the dogs all chill. Then I looked in the hallway and found where she had relieved herself! Most dogs squat and do their business in a puddle all at once, but it looked like she had walked and was "doing her business" at the same time because there was a little trail of urine all the way down the hallway. I know that next time we will go outside and I will watch her like a hawk and we won't come back in until she does "her business." She is really a very sweet girl and has adjusted to all of her recent life changes like a champ! I am sure that she will get the routine down around here in no time at all. She told me to tell her Mom that she sends you lots and lots of puppy kisses!
Nina's Photo Shoot
Pictures would be better if she didn't have "red eye" in so many of them. Makes her look like a "devil dog" and that's the furthest thing from the truth. I will try and get some better pictures, but this at least gives some of my friends an idea of what she looks like and lets her owner see that she is in good hands. Enjoy!

Nina Playing Hard To Get
Nina's second day at Camp Corbett offered some new challenges! I gave her the same kibble that all my other canine kids are eating, but she wouldn't eat. Reminded me of when I brought Sammie home as my foster. He acted like he was super picky at first as well. I first wanted to make sure that she wasn't sick - so I bribed her with some soft food mixed in with the kibble. Can you guess what happened next? Yep - she ate! Soft food and kibble were all gone! So I will work with her just like I did with Sammie. Each day she will get a little bit less soft food until she is just eating kibble! She was very excited to see me when I got home and she has been going outside without her little coat on and seems perfectly OK without it! More tomorrow!

Nina visits Camp Corbett
Today I picked up Nina and brought her home to meet my crew. She was a little bit nervous, but held her own. My 2 seniors, Bonnie & Sunny, wanted to sniff her and check her out, and then moved on. Sammie, my Chihuahua foster, was definitely interested in the new Chihuahua little girl that is now living here. He may have a bit of crush on her! Now Lucy, my Pom/Sheltie foster, is very jealous of the new addition. I have monitored her closely to make sure that she doesn't pick on Nina too much, but have found that Nina has no problem sticking up for herself!
